The Renaming of Jackson Park

The Friends of Jackson Park would like your input. The park renovation project includes a name change, given that the park is named after President Andrew Jackson, a problematic historical figure. This is your opportunity to let your voice be heard. Thank you for participating and sharing this link with others.   https://bit.ly/3euyFXb

Here are some of the suggestions we’ve received so far…

Rededicating Jackson Park to honor the legacy of Dr. Espanola Jackson.

Dr. Jackson was a Bayview-Hunters Point community advocate who passed in 2016. She was instrumental in pushing for the closing of the former Potrero power plant, mitigating the soil at the Hunters Point Shipyard, encouraging workforce development plans and local hire mandates in District 10 and was responsible for the citywide free lunch program for school children.

Macedonia Park: Just like Potrero Hill is one of the sunniest neighborhoods in San Francisco, Macedonia is one of the sunniest countries in Europe. By renaming Jackson Park to Macedonia Park, we will both acknowledge this similarity between the two places and honor the San Franciscans of Macedonian heritage who have contributed so much to this city.

2) Sunny Slope Park: Once again, this name celebrates the sunshine with which we are blessed here in Potrero Hill and by adding "Slope" to the name we also indirectly place the park as an integral part of our Potrero HILL community.

3) Two Diamonds Park: Jackson Park is a Mecca for baseball players across San Francisco and more broadly. By renaming it to Two Diamonds Park we celebrate this heritage and reaffirm our commitment to sports and healthy lifestyles.
