Inside the Architects’ Minds:
Together with Fletcher Studio and Jackson Liles Architecture we took on the challenge of answering a community request for more unprogrammed open space while maintaining the parks requirement to keep both ball fields.
Throughout the community design process, the overwhelming #1 request was for more unprogrammed, open space at Jackson Park. Given that both ball fields are required to remain (per SF Rec and Park), we have a finite amount of space to develop.
We are literally fighting for inches. Fletcher Studio and Jackson Liles Architecture stepped up to envision and produce an ingenious design that captures a 600% increase in the amount of public open space by moving the historic Clubhouse, bringing it to grade and using the natural and man-made elevation changes at the site.
The proposed elevated promenade provides additional areas to enjoy the park and the views with its platforms for overlooking both the fields and the playground.
